community organisation sharq.org and artist Reem Maghribi are partnering with other social impact spaces and creative explorers to co-create films, sculptures, poems and other artistic expressions that reflect liminality.

A series of community workshops, tables full of diverse materials, an invitation to build on the work of those who came before, an opportunity to explore different materials and share diverse stories, a pamphlet or poems inspired by artworks brought together in a hanging sculpture reminiscent of wind chimes and dream catchers.

our first collective exploration into liminality related to Syrian identity. at a time when Syrians are treading the threshold between a silent tyrannic past and an unknown future, many questions remain unanswered. just as the experiences faced during the years of revolution and war were markedly diverse, so too are the emotions and aspirations of Syrians in the present.
people who are displaced live in liminal spaces. millions of people in and from Syria were displaced from places they once called home. others, able to remain in the buildings they call home, faced challenges so vast that they have been displaced psychologically and emotionally. whatever form displacement has taken, it forces us to face questions about our futures, our values, and our identities.
