toolkit: collective advocacy for marginalised groups

sharq.org trained and mentored a collective of 10 activists from across the Arabic speaking region in storytelling for grassroots advocacy. the initiative included the delivery of a series of virtual workshops and the co-development of an advocacy campaign. (2022)

this colourful book of 96 pages includes stories - from the oral history collection Stories of Belonging - shared by 50 Syrian (and some Iraqi) migrants who settled in Europe and is available as a digital download. (2020)

three short animated films, reflecting the value of food, kindness and art in nurturing belonging among the displaced. inspired by the oral history collection Stories of Belonging. in Arabic, with English subtitles and Levant sign language. (2020)

artworks: inspired by Syrian Histories

sharq.org commissioned three artists to produce works inspired by the oral history collection Syrian Histories. the works were exhibited at a multidisciplinary event held in Beirut to celebrate the Tarikhi story archive. (2019)

filmed play: I Am Not A Vase

a recording of the 32-minute play I am Not a Vase, recorded at LAU, Beirut – one of a number of venues the play was staged at in Lebanon and Stockholm. (2019)

podcast: Syrians in the diaspora

in this series of six audio reports, grounded in a study of the fifty interviews that make up the oral history collection Peaceful Coexistence in the Diaspora, sharq.org explores the experiences of migrants and refugees and the impact of different factors on their ability to peacefully coexist with the various communities they come across and live among in their host countries.
