Sharq.Org collaborated with Alexandra Sandels and the Swedish Institute again in 2021 to develop a policy paper that supports Lebanon’s cultural actors and the international donors that assist them as they seek to bolster an arts and culture sector shaken by economic, political and security crises.
Through collective effort and a consultative process that ensures women took the lead and members of diverse communities were included, the experiences and expertise of cultural actors was considered, analysed and presented through a national survey; a focus group and consultations with experts and practitioners.
The resulting report outlines the challenges faced by Lebanon’s artists and presents recommendations for those who seek to support them. It was fed by a literature review of local, regional and international studies as well as discussions with a number of practitioners in Lebanon.
